Ekiti APC guber primary: No petition against Fayemi – Appeal panel

The appeal panel raised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to handle possible grievances against the party’s governorship primary election in Ekiti State at the weekend has concluded its assignment without receiving any petition against the emergence of Kayode Fayemi, former governor of the state and incumbent minister of solid minerals, in the exercise.
The chairperson of the panel, Amb. Fati Balla, made the disclosure on Tuesday while submitting the committee report to Sen. Osita Izunaso, APC National Organising Secretary, at the party national secretariat in Abuja.

Balla declared the election rescheduled for May 12 rancour-free, though the initial exercise held a week earlier was marred by violence, necessitating its cancellation and postponement to the new date.

According to the three-member panel, none of the other contestants brought any petition to challenge Fayemi’s victory throughout the three day they spent in the state.

“In the three days we sat, we did not receive a single petition, either in form of writing, telephone calls or by text message.

“This is to say there has been no petition after the primary election in Ekiti State, we have, therefore, come before you this afternoon to submit our report having completed our assignment’’, she said.

Other members of the committee which was inaugurated on May 2, include Capt. Bala Jibrin (Secretary) and Mrs Lilian Obenwa.

While receiving the report, Izunaso thanked the panelists, as he equally expressed the APC’s determination to reclaim Ekiti state from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the governorship election scheduled for July 14 .

He noted that the leadership of the party is planning to earnestly meet all the 33 aspirants that took part in the primary to properly integrate them, and also that a national campaign committee for the election would soon be set up to map out strategies to convince the people of Ekiti to cast their votes en-masse for Fayemi on the election day.

“We are glad that you have finished your assignment after sitting for three days, and there is no petition from any aspirant.

“We are also glad that the Ekiti primary election has taken place and that the aspirants are working together to ensure that we win the election.

“The most important thing to us in the APC is victory in the July election, for us, whenever there is a primary election, it is a family affair.

“And whenever we finish our primary elections, and aspirants and stakeholders come together to work as a team, it gladdens our heart as a party’’, Izunaso said.

Oyo LG polls: Ajimobi’s APC takes all

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all the elective positions contested for in the Local Government election held in Oyo state last Saturday.

After the collation of the final results by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), the party’s candidates were declared winners in all the Chairmanship and Councillorship posts in the 33 local governments and 35 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) at the commission’s office on Sunday.

The election which held on Saturday after 11 years of its kind in the state, witnessed extremely low turnout, though it was peaceful as residents complied fully with the sit-at-home order imposed by the state government to ensure that the exercise did not experience any hitch.
Independent observers, who monitored the election, declared it free and fair.
Though twelve political parties participated in the election, APC candidates were returned unopposed in most of the seats.

Meanwhile, a splinter group within the ruling party, the Unity Forum, has described the “abysmally low turnout” of the electorate at the Saturday’s LG election as a wake-up call on the leadership of the party to intervene in the crisis rocking its Oyo state chapter and reposition it for good outing in the 2019 general elections.

The Forum in the release by its Secretary, Wasiu Olatunbosun, noted that the poll was a referendum on the APC, saying the low turnout was an indication that the party needs to be re-invigorated to stand a fair chance in next year’s elections.

“We have said it for the umpteenth time that the members of the Unity Forum constitute more than 70 per cent of the membership of the APC with a history of party loyalty, discipline and proven capacity to deliver the votes.

“It was to the members of the group that the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu turned in 2015 to secure needed votes for the second term bid of Governor Abiola Ajimobi,” the released further stated.

Also, the state chapter of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has thanked the people of the state and particularly its members for boycotting the LG polls, describing the exercise as a ‘rehearsal for APC’s burial’.

The party, which had announced its decision to boycott the exercise ahead of its conduct, made the claim in a statement forwarded to journalists in the name its chairman, Kunmi Mustapha, by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Akeem Olatunji.

The statement alleged that participating in last Saturday’s local government election in the state would amount to “a tacit endorsement of an illegality as the election failed integrity test right from the inception of the electoral process.”

Steer clear of LG election, congress, Ajimobi warns rival APC faction

Town Planning

Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi on Thursday warned his rivals in the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stay away from the Local Government election scheduled to hold across the state on Saturday,
The group, otherwise known as Unity Forum was also warmed against alleged attempt to disrupt the party’s Local Government Congress holding across the country same day.
The governor’s warning was contained in a statement issued by his Executive Assistant (Political), Dr. Morohunkola Thomas, in Ibadan on Thursday.
Thomas said the state government had uncovered a plan by the disgruntled APC members to cause mayhem in the state on the said date, warning that security agencies in the state have been placed on red alert to deal decisively with any group or individual fomenting trouble during the exercises.
Since the party held its ward congress last week, the factions in the state have been tackling each other in the bid to have their loyalists at the helm.
Below is the statement from the state government:

“The Oyo State Government has warned groups and individuals against activities capable of disrupting Saturday’s local government election and party congresses, saying that security operatives have been put on red alert to ensure peaceful conduct of both exercises.

“A statement by the Executive Assistant, Political to the Governor, Dr. Morohunkola Thomas, on Thursday, said that the warning became necessary following the fresh plans by dissident groups and their sympathisers within the All progressives Congress to cause mayhem on Saturday.

“Following the scuttling of the initial plans of the group to burn down the state secretariat of the APC, he said that intelligence revealed that they are restrategising to disrupt the peace of the land and render the LG election and congresses inconclusive.

” The government said that necessary security arrangements have been put in place to protect lives and property and to ensure that residents exercise their franchise without let or hindrance.

“According to him, latest intelligence has revealed that the members of the Unity Forum are planning to use their thugs to unleash terror on innocent electorate and loyal members of the APC.

“He said that the government appealed to all citizens, including the self-styled Unity Forum to embrace peace and allow the elections to hold in a peaceful atmosphere in the overall interest of the state and sanctity of democracy.

“The government has put security operatives on red alert to ensure the safety of election officials and voters. It has therefore become necessary to warn groups and individuals bent on fomenting trouble on Saturday to have a rethink.

“The law of the land is no respecter of anybody, no matter his or her position in the society. As leaders in their own right, those crying blue murder should rise above pettiness and join hands with the government and our great party.

“The government is using this opportunity to caution all political parties, including APC and their followers against any act of violence before, during and after the local government election and party congresses. The full weight of the law will be visited on troublemakers without discrimination.

“The government wishes to tell the public that an earlier interim injunction stopping the LG election had been vacated by a Federal High Court, Ibadan, thus clearing obstacles before the conduct of the election.”

APC Ward Congress: Ajimobi mounts pressure on National Secretariat, Congress C’tee

By Sikiru Akinola

Four days after the conduct of the ward congress of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State, Governor Abiola Ajimobi is mounting pressure on the national headquarters of the party as well as the congress and appeal committees’ panels to accept his people as the ‘duly’ elected ward executives

It would be recalled that Ajimobi’s loyalists lost out of power play as they failed to obtain nomination forms for the exercise.

Contrary to Ajimobi’s claim that the party was one in the state, it was learnt that members of Unity Forum of the party ‎had obtained the 9477 forms produced for the congress.

The Unity Forum includes Communications Minister, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu, Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu, Prof Adeolu Akande, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, 8 House of Representatives members in the state, 18 members of the state House of Assembly, 26 former local government chairmen, many serving and former political office holders as well as majority of the aggrieved members of the party.

Unknown to Ajimobi, who had advised the national headquarters ‎of the party against issuing multiple forms as he wanted affirmation, those who had been sidelined in the scheme of things had purchased forms for the 9477 vacancies. Each of the 9,477 candidates was endorsed by 13 party members in their respective wards bringing active members of the Unity Forum who participated in the exercise to about 140,000.
“Did all these people die in 24 hours after signing the forms to be party of the purported affirmation”,asked a party chieftain.

According to an executive of the state chapter of the party, “affirmation means approval of an existing executive, whereas the list submitted to the Congress Committee is not that of existing executive members but entirely that of his SENACO members. He deceived the Congress Committee that they were existing party executives”. This is another fraudulent act in addition to the printing of fake nomination forms which the governor and his men parade.

On getting to know on Saturday that members of Unity Forum had collected all available forms, an obviously-defeated Ajimobi was said to have lobbied members of the congress to accept payment on the day and provide forms for his people. It was, however, learnt that members of the Congress committee rejected the idea saying that they lacked such power.

The pre-congress briefing, which was to hold at the Oke-Ado, Ibadan state secretariat of the party, later snowballed into violence as many people, including son of a late leader of the party, Alhaji Lamidi Adesina, Adedapo Lam-Adesina was attacked by sponsored thugs.

‎A top party chieftain, who preferred anonymity, revealed that “Ajimobi is looking for every means to get his bidding done. What really happened was that he sees himself as the all-knowing.
” Few weeks before the congress, he had told the national secretariat of our party that there was no division within the party. He was quoted as telling them not to bring more than the needed 9477 forms that they were going to do affirmation. He didn’t tell anybody about the plan when he returned to Ibadan. The other group knew they were going to contest against an incumbent but didn’t know Ajimobi’s loyalists were not going to obtain forms.

“Attempts by the governor and his men to get the committee members do their bidding fell on deaf ears as the 7-man committee remained adamant. The congress members later gave forms to those with payment tellers on Friday. And on Saturday, the pre-congress briefing was later disrupted as a popular Ibadan High Chief came loaded with thugs. Members of the Unity Forum, it was learnt, later went to the Police headquarters, Eleiyele to brief the police and the press. They later came for the reconvened meeting and congress, which was suppose to hold on Saturday, was adjourned ‎to Sunday.

“Ordinarily, those ‎with forms should have been declared winners as they had no opponents. The congress went ahead. The forms could not be submitted on Sunday and they were asked to come on Friday. In fact, Ajimobi, the party and the security agencies confirmed the congress to be successful. Meanwhile, Ajimobi didn’t stop lobbying the congress members to put it in their report that affirmation was done in Oyo. That is illogical. How could you have done affirmation when members of the other group purchased forms? When he couldn’t get the congress members to buy into the idea, he allegedly threatened that if they declare anything contrary, that he may not be able to control the aftermath. That was why the committee members didn’t declare any result.

“As I talk to you, Ajimobi hasn’t stopped lobbying top chieftains of the party to safe him from disgrace. He wants them to write in their report that the committee did affirmation in the state,” the source added.

APC debuts website, social media accounts

Nigeria’s ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced the formal opening of a new website and other social media accounts.
The party made the announcement on Sunday hours after it denied ownership a popular twitter account hitherto associated with it – @APCNigeria.
The controversial account, which was registered in February 2013, had posted several tweets on Saturday, raising the suspicion that it may have been hacked.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi had disclaimed the handle on Saturday, describing the last series of tweets as ‘a case of criminal impersonation’.
Abdulahi, in a statement released on behalf of the party on Sunday, said the new website and social media handle will keep members of the public updated on the accomplishments and events of the party.
“The newly-designed website features a streamlined and uncluttered design, offering user-friendly functionality and rich content. Confess your sins like Mantu, APC tells PDP

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to follow the example of one its leaders and former Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ibrahim Mantu.
Mantu in a recent TV programme confessed the he took part in rigging elections for the PDP.
Now the APC wants the PDP to borrow this example and confess to their sins against the country instead of indulging in name calling.
Apparently burdened by guilty conscience, the PDP National Chairman had last week apologised to the nation for the years of misrule that his party had brought to the country.
The APC noted this apology but asked the PDP to go a step further and confess to their sins before restitution could be considered.
Instead of taking this path to redemption, PDP has engaged in fruitless “you too” accusations and name calling.
“This is further evidence that PDP is not ready for repentance and only offered the apology with the hope that Nigerians will grant them amnesty and a short-cut back to power”, said APC’s publicity secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi.
“However, now that Senator Mantu has belled the cat, by confessing to how he has helped the PDP to rig elections in the past, we hope that PDP will follow the bold example of the former Senator and confess to their other sins against Nigeria,” Abdullahi said.

APC is Nigeria, PDP’s enemy, says Atiku

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has asked for unity amongst members of the Peoples Democratic Party following the conclusion of election of the party’s executive at its National Convention on Saturday.
A press statement by the media office of the former Vice President congratulating Prince Uche Secondus as the new national chairman of the PDP and other elected officials of the exco, says that the immediate challenge before the newly elected national officials of the PDP is to run an all-inclusive administration where the various interests within the party can find accommodation.
Atiku reminded that Nigerians are looking up to the Peoples Democratic Party for unity in the party, “because it takes a united and coherent PDP to sack the APC government in 2019″.
The statement reads: “Our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party is, again, at the threshold of an historical moment. Just as we mobilized to put an end to prolonged military rule in 1999, the people of Nigeria at this moment look up to us to rescue the country from the mis-government of the APC.
“Arising from our elective congress, there should be no victor and no vanquished. Our paramount attention should be focused at sacking a government that deceived the people of Nigeria into power by promising our youths three million jobs annually, only to deliver three million job lodses annually; a government that is repeatedly living in denial of its commitment to restructuring. We must be united to take power back to where it belongs: the Nigerian people.
“As members of the PDP, we must take pride in being able to hold a national convention and in so doing live up to the bill of being a truly democratic political party. Our major opponent has not been able to achieve this feat and I join millions of our party members to congratulate the Ahmed Makarfi-led national caretaker committee.
“I understand that there are complaints and grievances from many of the co-contestants in the congress. I am aware that the PDP has a mechanism for addressing such complaints and it is important that such avenues of redress are made available for members to explore without let or hindrance Meantime, I call on ALL our leaders and members to rally the new executive for the sake of our party, Nigeria and the good of our people.

#ENDSARS campaign: APC seeks Nigerians’ opinions

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for opinions on the ongoing campaign for scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force.

Offering three options – #EndSARS, #ReformSARS and #IStandWithSARS – the party uses the twitter update to test the popularity of the call for end to SARS, which has been trending for days on the social media.

“What’s your opinion? #SARS is @PoliceNG’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad & a section of the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation & Intelligent Department (FCIID). #SARS is accused of extra-judicial killings, corruption & human rights violations,” the post read.

Posted around 6.40 am, the update had recorded 6,632 votes, 191 likes and 596 retweets as at 2.23 pm when this report was being put together.

Besides, many respondents gave angry replies to the post to vent their anger against the police unit which was said to notorious for corruption and rights abuses.
